The Current

François Boivin This is the strongest prog-metal album I've listened so far in 2016. It has a very modern sound that combines elements of Neo-Metal and Grunge to create very groovy songs. The Current also features lots of softer parts that should please every old school prog-rock fan. The singer adds a nice dramatic touch without being cheesy. The only drawback IMO is the sound of the overdriven guitars which is too thin. Favorite track: Collapsing.

The Prey 05:30
The Prey “See these faces around you ‖ Judging you ‖ Your reflection” ‖ Through their eyes I don’t see ‖ Any harmful thoughts at all ‖ Or am I blind to the madness ‖ The one that blurs my eyes ‖ (Yes I will) My will’s not yours to take away ‖ (Take control) I’m not your prey ‖ (Corruption) Will not flow through my veins ‖ (In your blood) ‖ You tried in vain ‖ “What’s the matter, are you afraid?” ‖ To this suffering I surrender, happiness is a lie ‖ You say that I am still alive ‖ But everything is warmer than me ‖ “What’s the matter, are you sane? ‖ Don’t cry, ‘cause you’re alive” ‖ As I’m walking to the bridge ‖ The one in-between me and my insanity ‖ I fear I’ll lose myself, or even my life ‖ My own life ‖ “Seems these faces ‖ All are gone ‖ You are left ‖ For me” ‖ (Yes I will) My will’s not yours to take away ‖ (Take control) I’m not your prey ‖ (Corruption) Will not flow through my veins ‖ (In your blood) ‖ You tried in vain / (Your life is vain)

On the Edge 06:54
On the Edge I hope to feel something, here on the edge of my mind ‖ Here can I feel the warmth of this freezing breeze ‖ Hoping this floating paradox pushes me ‖ Pushes me off the edge ‖ This questioning, this mind sickness, I want it to cease ‖ So intensely ‖ Desecrated, ripped apart in his mind ‖ Let the wind flow ‖ Lacerated in his soul ‖ He’s now blind to this leap of faith ‖ In these waters, he searches for an answer ‖ Doesn’t know if he’ll find the right path ‖ Away from his doubts ‖ Drowning in these doubts of mine ‖ Searching for a feeling ‖ A feeling I wanna hold in me ‖ Oh I wanna hold in me ‖ A feeling I wanna hold ‖ In these waters he’s aiming at the end ‖ Desecrated, ripped apart in his mind ‖ Let the wind flow ‖ Lacerated in his soul ‖ He’s now blind to this leap of faith ‖ This leap of faith guiding him to his end
3.
Post Mortem Illness In the desert of my mind ‖ I am lost, lost and dry ‖ Am I the only one here? Why can’t I feel the wind anymore? ‖ How can these strange waves have led me here? ‖ Still, this nonsense is comforting, at last the pain has died; ‖ The everlasting battle that set stage beneath my eyes ‖ It is frozen in time, ceased to corrupt my vision ‖ It’s now clear; that the pain didn’t die alone ‖ I cannot breathe, don’t need to ‖ Hold my hand as I run ‖ From this paranoia ‖ Come with me out of this land ‖ This wretched land that I need to leave ‖ To leave ‖ Stand in the sun ‖ Oh in the sun ‖ Die alone (alone) ‖ Oh die alone ‖ How could I know I would still feel alive? ‖ Alive in my death, still trapped in my mind ‖ Hold my hand as I run ‖ From this paranoia ‖ Come with me out of this land ‖ This wretched land that I need to leave ‖ To leave ‖ To be finally free
4.
Raging Hell 05:46
Raging Hell I don’t care what you tell me ‖ As long as I get my dose ‖ All these shitty faces around me ‖ Could not bear the life I chose ‖ ‘Cause I ... ‖ I’m sick of all your sanity ‖ Just give me something ‖ To set me free ‖ I just wanna let it burn in me ‖ And rise from this raging hell ‖ Raging Hell ‖ I’ve reached the point of no return ‖ Watch this city, let it burn ‖ I am sick of all of you ‖ Tellin’ me what to do ‖ ‘Cause I ... ‖ I’m sick of all your sanity ‖ Just give me something ‖ To set me free ‖ I just wanna let it burn in me ‖ And rise from this raging hell ‖ This hell I’m in ‖ ‘Cause I am lost in this raging hell ‖ I just wanna let it burn in me ‖ And rise from this raging hell
5.
The Fall of Barca The scars on my skin are there ‖ There to remind me ‖ All the reasons I got to fight for my kin ‖ They ran away ‖ Like the cowards they are ‖ The man I was before; he’s gone ‖ Since their betrayal ‖ We need to find the better way ‖ To fight ‖ Plan our way through their bones ‖ So we may rise ‖ Scarred and burned to the soul, these are no men ‖ Fear us now, our city will prevail ‖ The hole we left them in, empty field of dust ‖ Only as dry as their skulls ‖ Lying by our gates ‖ We’re still thirsty for blood ‖ We need to find the better way ‖ To fight ‖ Plan our way through their bones ‖ So we may rise ‖ Scarred and burned to the soul, these are no men ‖ Fear us now, our city will prevail ‖ Seems the end is near, the final hour ‖ Our people shall always be free ‖ We shall not be slaves ‖ Oh how sweet ‖ The taste of revenge ‖ Hear the distant horn ‖ There is no retreating ‖ I shall be the one ‖ To take my life ‖ We need to find the better way ‖ To fight ‖ Plan our way through their bones ‖ So we may rise ‖ Scarred and burned to the soul, these are no men ‖ Fear us now, our city will prevail ‖ Redemption is gone ‖ Fading away with a man ‖ A simple man ‖ Romans got the city ‖ My time is over, here’s my last stand ‖ I may now close my eyes ‖ And be silent forevermore ‖ (Forever)
6.
Collapsing 06:36
Collapsing What’s this coldness I am feeling? ‖ A sensation of soul nausea ‖ As time flies by, my trust fades away ‖ The air whispers their mockeries ‖ Or could it be something else? ‖ Could these tormented voices be from within? ‖ Have I built my own grave? ‖ Oh, I feel so high on these lies ‖ They keep drowning me but I like it ‖ In this permanent joy ‖ This drug is my joy ‖ But they say that time is gone ‖ This can’t be true ‖ You’re all misguided ‖ Preaching that they’re right ‖ Saying that I’m not ‖ (Oh they say that I am not) ‖ I thought I could bear the unknowing, but look at all those happy smiles ‖ Those fake ones, even lying to the carriers ‖ Maybe fooling yourself’s the way ‖ The way to sanity ‖ Falling apart ‖ Slowly collapsing ‖ I am falling apart ‖ Slowly ‖ My trust if fading ‖ Is there an absolute? ‖ The truth must be somewhere ‖ But I’m so tired of searching ‖ I’m so tired ‖ This can’t be true ‖ You’re all misguided ‖ My trust if fading ‖ Is there an absolute? ‖ The truth must be somewhere ‖ But I’m so tired of searching ‖ I’m so tired ‖ But they say that time is gone
7.
Until the Sun Oh I’m so lost in this current ‖ Dragging me away from society ‖ They try to tell us what we were born to be; ‖ “Try this test, it will tell you what you are” ‖ They walk the line, lead by the blind ‖ Me I like to run, to run aside ‖ Led by feelings of questioning ‖ I don’t know what to search for ‖ I know ‖ I know I’ll find my way ‖ Somehow, my way ‖ Deep inside, I see that ‖ No, this can’t be true ‖ I know I am meant for more ‖ I know that I am meant for ‖ More than you can comprehend ‖ Than you can understand ‖ I may not know right now ‖ But I’ll die trying ‖ ‘Cause I feel the need of the greater cause ‖ I just don’t have one to fight for yet ‖ One to fight for yet ‖ (To fight for yet) ‖ They walk the line, lead by the blind ‖ Me I like to run, to run aside ‖ Led by feelings of questioning ‖ I don’t know what to search for ‖ I don’t understand why they seem to be searchin’ for nothin’ ‖ While I gotta find my way, my reason to be here ‖ My way down here ‖ I don’t understand why they seem to be searchin’ for nothin’ ‖ While I gotta find my way, my reason to be here ‖ My way down here ‖ I gotta find my way ‖ But I gotta find my way, my reason to be here ‖ My way down here ‖ My way ‖ Oh I, I am lost ‖ Well I gotta find my way here ‖ ‘Cause I am lost in this hell
8.
Intoxicated 08:38
Intoxicated Won’t you leave my head out of conscious sight? ‖ Leave my thoughts at night, Oh get me out ‖ Of this cell of flesh and bones ‖ Hold back your grieving tones ‖ You’re the one from my dreams ‖ But moonlight’s turning grey ‖ I’m sick of all your schemes ‖ The way my heart beats at your sight ‖ Such a feeling 'n ashamed fright ‖ It tends towards your coldness ‖ But emptiness is left ‖ Left as a mess ‖ A beautiful mess ‖ That’s haunting me ‖ Every heartbeat, every thought of you and me (thought of you and me) ‖ Filled my soul of a quivering joy (quivering joy in me) ‖ So intoxicating was this feeling ‖ Still flows in my veins, this adrenaline ‖ This blindness holds me to you (to me) ‖ Letting the senses overrun clarity (let it overrun clarity) ‖ I am fading pleasantly escaping (fading from my life you are) ‖ The sadness of uncertainty (I’m sure you are sad now) ‖ Of uncertainty ‖ Every heartbeat, every thought of you and me (thought of you and me) ‖ Filled my soul of a quivering joy (quivering joy in me) ‖ So intoxicating was this feeling ‖ Still flows in my veins, this adrenaline ‖ Every heartbeat (every heartbeat) ‖ Every thought of you and me (you and me) ‖ Filled my soul of a quivering joy
9.
The Thing Called Consciousness Follow me to the grave ‖ Let me explain something to you ‖ To you ‖ Oh tell me why doubting the world is bad ‖ When the one we’re in crumbles apart ‖ Brightful innocence should always be bliss ‖ Tell me why, why he had to die to make us all ‖ All, wonder why we live so blind? ‖ Tell me how, how you’re gonna change your life ‖ Don’t you even feel bad? Do you even feel (something) ‖ Something at all? ‖ Oh, something at all ‖ You are better off ‖ Not knowing the truth ‖ Than assuming you’re right ‖ Follow me, I will show you how ‖ Pretending you’re right will consume your light ‖ Light will fade; will fade away (away) ‖ Feel bad for yourself, you’re the one alive ‖ Not the one who’s right, not the one who’s bright ‖ Tell me why, why he had to die to make us all ‖ All, wonder why we live so blind? ‖ Tell me how, how you’re gonna change your life ‖ Don’t you even feel bad? Do you even feel (something) ‖ Something at all? ‖ Follow me to the grave

about

This is the first studio album from Quebec's progressive rock band Noēsis. It mixes the sounds of musical influences such as: Mastodon, System of a Down, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and even classical music.

Drifting between a more raw "Rock/metal" sound and a more progressive and nostalgic vibe, "The Current" is surely an interesting and original album for both rock/metal and prog rock fans.
